It's what he was arguing yesterday (to quote his words: "try to keep up,

I take his argument to be that there was always disunity in the student
movement and the counterculture. My argument is that there was more cohesion
and mutual support (i.e. unity) across a range of groups in the earlier
phase, in that these groups were pursuing common causes, often
co-operatively.
