Here on Pynchon-L I've seen Pynchon portrayed as a
Bush supporter and cheerleader for the War on
Terrorism, "conservative American", journalist-hater,
dope-powered prose-channeller, a writer of ill-logical
essays, lunatic, one-hit(Gravity's Rainbow) wonder, &
etc. Personally I prefer the anti-fascist,
tree-hugging Pynchon, the hard-working writer and
inspired genius whose mind-boggling books and stories
are avidly read and discussed just about everywhere,
who occupies a place on the perennial short list for
the Nobel Prize.
I agree with my esteemed colleague that everybody gets
the Pynchon she wants, and add that some of these
Pynchons bear more resemblance than others to the
biographical facts.
