A brief reminiscence about the apparently memorably lavish and luxurious
ladies' bathrooms at I. Magnin's in S.F. From the description and pics it's
easy to understand why Pynchon has his privileged little "rebel" miss Zipi
Pisk make mention of them so condescendingly while she's kvetching about the
lack of a "major store" on the West Coast and the superior style and
sophistication of her accustomed Manhattan shopping haunts.

    "Magnin's?" Zipi would smile grimly. "OK for a shopping
    center, somewhere on Long Island perhaps, very nice ladies'
    toilet of course, but please, this is no major store." (196)
