VLVL(11) The Depravity of Frenesi

Doggedly continuing the summary of chapter 11...

Frenesi, deep into her involvement with the latest Atman get-together
love-fest, washes the dishes as her contribution to the party and
hitches a ride to the airport from Weed's wife, Jinx, from whom he is
"technically separated."

Frenesi tells everyone she is going to the bay area, but she is really
heading for a hotel in Oklahoma City to hook up with Brock Vond.

On the trip to the airport Jinx makes sure that Frenesi is not about to
make any claims of exclusivity on Weed and confesses to being unable to
understand the "math trip he's on."

Jinx explains that Weed is a good lover once you can get him to shut up
and Frenesi explains her attraction saying "A lot of this is the
politics, too, Jinx, I hope you can dig."

Frenesi feels like she has landed on another planet when she enters the
orbit of Brock Vond.  After noontime sex, the watch weather reports on
television.  Frenesi is thrilled by reports of tornadoes, but Vond is
not impressed.

As soon as he's settled his carnal needs, he explains to Frenesi his
plan to "destabilize and subvert" the People's Republic of Rock and
Roll. Vond's plan is to make a whole lot of money available to the
leaders and let them fight over it.  He is thinking it would be a great
way to learn how much money it would take to destabilize an entire
country.

Frenesi meanwhile is in total submission to Vond, physical and mental.
She is ready, willing and able to go over to the other side, entranced by
an addiction to authoritarianism. She is prepared to do anything Vond
tells
her to do, without challenging or even questioning his motivation.

A truly bizarre Pynchonian moment is inserted at this point.  On the
tube the weatherpeople fall silent, laugh  and yield the microphone to a
preacher who predicts that "someday, with the right man in the White
House, there will be a DePARTment of Jesus, yes a SECretary of Jesus."
Perhaps if the current resident of white house is "re-elected", this
prediction will be fulfilled.

The preacher then turns his attention to the tornado watch that the
weatherpeople were discussing and Frenesi turns off the TV.
