Perhaps it's significant that Pynchon chose these
lovely names instead of giving them names that mean
"freeloader" or "bum" or "traitor" or "outside
agitator" or "ugrateful trust fund wastrels"  or any
of the derogatory labels that have been implied or
applied to them by some participants in this
discussion.

Ditzah means "joy."

Zipi is a shortened form of Zipporah. It means "bird."
In the Old Testament,
Zipporah becomes the wife of Moses and the mother of
Gershom.
