Bruce Eisner & Pynchon on Ecstasy

Eisner is the guy who first published the Pynchon
quote about MDMA ("Ecstasy") way back when
(<http://bruceeisner.typepad.com/about.html>), in his
book about that intriguing substance; the quote was
later disseminated more widely by journalst and NYU
professor (and, lin the spirit of full disclosure, a
friend of mine), Douglas Rushkoff.  The quote pops up
on Pynchon-L from time to time.  A few years ago, I
contacted Eisner, who insisted that the Pynchon quote
was authentic, although he declined to offer any more
detail about its provenance.  He published the quote
in 1989.  It's possible their paths crossed during the
80s while Pynchon was working on Vineland, part of
which was written in Aptos, California, next door to
Santa Cruz where Eisner was then based.
