Your own vision of a Pynchon movie?

Forgive me for again appealing to you guys on account of the Modern Word,
but I thought some of you might like to take a shot at our Contest #2. One
of the prizes is a copy of Stephenson's "Quicksilver;" and I know that
occasionally people around here like to "cast" Pynchon's novels.

CONTEST #2

http://www.themodernword.com/contests/contest002.html

You know that feeling when one of your favorite books is going to be turned
into a movie? You feel both excited and anxious. You obsess over the
director's previous work, over the actors chosen to play beloved characters,
and whether or not they'll pay attention to what the fans have to say. Well,
here's your chance to strike back. (At least in your own imagination, at any
rate.)

Imagine one of your favorite books has been turned into a movie, and write a
review. The book in question may be any text  fiction, non-fiction, short
stories, even a comic book; but it should be reasonably well-known. If it
has already been filmed, be sure to compare the old version with the "new."
You may feature actual directors and actors, or you may invent your own
fictional talent. Be creative  let your review explore the cinematic
possibilities of the text itself!

The review should be between 500 and 1000 words, and must be submitted
electronically to The Modern Word at the following email address:
editor at libyrinth.com . Entries should be submitted as a Microsoft Word
attachment, or as text in the body of the email itself.

Entries must be submitted by February 22, 2004.

The five most creative and well-written reviews will be gathered together
and posted permanently on the site. Three reviews will be selected as First,
Second and Third Place by The Modern Word's staff.

The First Place winner will receive a package of four books as a prize: Neal
Stephenson's Quicksilver, the Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to
Eccentric & Discredited Diseases (with Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, China
Mieville, and others), Nick Cave's And the Ass Saw the Angel, and KJ
Bishop's The Etched City. (Courtesy of William Morrow, Nightshade books,
2.13.61, and Prime respectively.) The Second Place winner will receive
Stephenson's Quicksilver and the Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to
Eccentric & Discredited Diseases, and the Third Place winner will receive
the Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases.

Contest updates will be available through the "Spiral-Bound" Newsletter.
Although you do not have to be a Spiral-Bound subscriber to enter or win,
the winners will first be announced in the March 2004 edition of
Spiral-Bound.

Submitting a review to The Modern Word authorizes the site to have
non-exclusive rights to the review for all eternity and a day. The contest
closes February 22, 2004, and winners will be announced by March 15, 2004.
