Probably a stretch, but you could draw a parallel between the unlikely
student revolt at College of the Surf and a revolution in the surfer
community - from the clean cut, "Beach Boys" look to a much harder edged,
guerilla style - that originated in the Dogtown area of Santa Monica during
the mid-70's.

Dogtown was a locals-only break at an abandoned pier that was taken over by
outlaw surfers.
