VLVL2 DL's Failure

Re-reading the current frame it's difficult to be as forgiving
as Frenesi- probably an impossible task for mere mortals,
anyway- with regards to DL's failure to be where she should
have been, to be doing her job protecting Frenesi and by
extension, Weed, Rex, the rest of the tortured group from
the evil swirling around them. DL knew the weakness of men,
and the great risk to her own soul Frenesi had undertaken
through self-sacrifice and blind faith in the inherent goodness
of men- giving them that one shot, the one opportunity to
transcend their violent natures and come together, embrace-
defeat the evil that she believed them capable of defeating.

Frenesi must have sensed that they would not have her
strength of character, that they would fail her expectations
and hopes for them, and succumb to the darkness. Of course,
that did not weaken her faith in them.

Now here's DL, again, given a rare opportunity to atone for
her sin of omission, to be the rock that Frenesi believed she
could be, a rare third (or is it fourth by now?) chance to live
up to Frenesi's expectations, even though Frenesi is not
present.

It is an awful test of DL's strength, sitting here with Prairie
and Ditzah, having to relive that terrible night, and being reminded
of her own failure, and the temptation to shift the blame onto
Prairie's mom. I'm not sure she actually transcends that
temptation. Certainly DL failed to control her anger and guilt with
respect to Brock, and that almost cost Takeshi his life. I think,
finally, DL does remain appropriately neutral at this very difficult
moment, and allows Prairie the opportunity to make up her own
mind about the nature of Frenesi's awesome power.
