Where does the narrator compare the violence at College of the Surf with
Berkeley and Columbia? The paragraph at 208 where the comparison is made
emanates from Rex's perspective, and the points of comparison between the
formation of a student political organisation (ADHOC) at College of the Surf
and "Berkeley and Columbia standards" are "innocent festivity" and "the
emerging junta". Rex is a *graduate* student, so he has certainly been on
the scene since the early '60s, and he's making a comparison with the
student revolts at Berkeley in 1964 (picketing of the Oakland _Tribune_ for
racial discrimination, FSM sit-in in Dec., and the couple of years of campus
unrest which followed) and at Columbia in 1968. Rex has nothing whatsoever
to do with DL's arrival at Berkeley narrated earlier in the text (but I also
think it's clear that DL has been with 24fps for a number of years prior to
the College of the Surf incident.)

I really think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one,
Terrance.
