I've been reading an interesting book about al qaeda
by jason burke which received a favorable review in
the guardian last september, disputing the common view
(or at the least the way the US media portrays it) of
al qaeda as a cohesive organization, directed solely
by bin laden. I believe the playboy "interview"
mentions a similar view of bin laden as some sort of
symbol.
