I got plenty of nothing
And nothing's plenty for me
I got no car - got no mule
I got no misery

Folks with plenty of plenty
They've got a lock on the door
Afraid somebody's gonna rob 'em
While there out a making more - what for

I got no lock on the door - that's no way to be
They can steal the rug from the floor - that's OK with me
'Cause the things that I prize - like the stars in the skies - are all
free

I got plenty of nothing
And nothing's plenty for me
I got my gal - got my song
I Got heaven the whole day long
I got the obligatory Hendrix perm,
And the inevitable pinhole burns,
All down the front of my favorite satin shirt.
I got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I got a silver spoon on a chain.
Got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains.
I've got wild, staring eyes.
And I got a strong urge to fly,
but I got a Led Zeppelin and Keith Moon in the pool.
Ain't got no home, ain't got no shoes
Ain't got no money, ain't got no class
Ain't got no skirts, ain't got no sweater
Ain't got no perfume, ain't got no beer
Ain't got not Marigolds or Moons or Promised-Lands
Ain't got no Woman
Ain't got no hole in the ground where they used to sing "I like to Live
In America!"
Ain't got no mother, ain't got no culture
Ain't got no friends, ain't got no schooling
Ain't got no love, ain't got no name
Ain't got no ticket, ain't got no token
Ain't got no God
Ain't got no X
Ain't got no Malcolm
Ain't got no Polish
Ain't got no talcum
I got Nina Simone on the phone.
I got Sonny Bono's Bones, Babe.
I got Papa and His Rolling Stones.
And all He ever left me.
I got Sponge Bob sitting on a Corn Flake
Waiting for the Bassoon Band your in
to change its name to The International Silver String Submarine Band!
I got a little black book with my poems in.
Got a bag, got a toothbrush and a comb.
When I'm a good dog they sometimes throw me a bone.
I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on.
Got those swollen hands blues.
Got thirteen channels of shit on the TV to choose from.
I got electric light,
And I got second sight.
Got amazing powers of observation.
I got my hair, I got my head
I got my brains, I got my ears
I got my eyes, I got my nose
I got my mouth, I got my smile
I got my tongue, I got my chin
I got my neck, I got my balls
I got my heart, I got my soul
I got my back, I got my sex
I got my arms, I got my hands
I got my fingers, Got my legs
I got my feet, I got my toes
I got my liver, Got my blood
I've got life , I've got my freedom.
"Don't know about that 'free,' Oberst."
