Nah, boyz.  Hollander is/was just sick and tired of persnicketty assholes who shut down a discussion rather than foster one.

Sad, really.  Many good Pynchon enthusiasts get sick of the flaming, insults, and other bullshit on this list that goes unchecked because the P-list is unmoderated.  I'm not trying to refuel the whole "list nanny" discussion again, but I subscribe to several other listserves, a couple of which are unmoderated as well.  Murthy (P-list's Grand High Exalted Mystic
Poobah) gives us a lot of license on this list that, frankly, gets abused (recall when he moderated us some time back, when things got particularly ugly?). In part, being unmoderated gives this list its wacky identity, but that identity is often at the expense of what *could* develop into some pretty impressive scholarship, or (at the very least) civil discussion.

No need to berate the man merely because he chooses not to put up with our bullshit.
