Well, whether or not it's the S.S. Next Thing hauling
into view, The Corrections is really good.

Chabon's got a wife, but that could be a beard.  I
read his comic book novel at the persistent urgings of
a former friend.  It was very weak (and the main
character, come to think of it, was gay.  And he gets
married ...)
