Au contraire. I think esp. that there are more
Tolkien fans than will raise their hands here. But I
tend to think of myself often as the odd one out, as I
don't even read all that much fiction in the first
place, and very little of it contemporary, or even,
for that matter, American. Vollmann? Gass? For
example. An acquaintance axed me the other night (a)
know anything about this Thomas Pynchon guy, and (b)
recommend anything else along those lines? I listed
more than a few works I know only from their having
been enthusaistically mentioned here ...
