>>> Pynchon makes Zoyd
and co. one big happy at the novel's end <<<
And this reading is just one more example of how you and I read Pynchon
very differently. Our very first encounter back in the initial MDMD was
when you got all pissed at me for accusing you of a Sunday School
reading of M&D. When I see Pynchon's happy endings I do have the exact
same reaction that I have when I see David Lynch's happy endings.
Irony. The robins of happiness and light are mechanical birds eating
bugs. The happy poochies have the feathers of dogfood eating birds all
around their grins. The mess we're in has no solutions. The right has
no better solutions than the left. Absurdity and looniness make it
tolerable some of the time. And, the best way to spend one's time is by
creating art.
