real belief is for the morons, the cannon fodder.  today's theocrapalism is, 
conversely, real ideology: the  profession of faith as an openly secret 
signal that you don't believe at all.  just like you have to say, 'hi, how 
are you?' to satisfy people that you don't give a shit, who would be 
offended if you didn't ask.

well, it's not as if christianity wasn't always about cheap magic tricks, 
anyway.
