I have listened to FZ's synclavier's stuff and phrankly (no pun inten-dead) I find most of it sort of banal if not boring. The Ensemble Moderne's stuff with real musicians is to me much more authentic and artistic, as is FZ's stuff with horns and arrangements (Grand Wazoo, Studio Tan). On an album like Overnite Sensation, notwithstanding all the s n m and caca talk (which gets old) the band was f-in hot: Geroge Duke on electric piano made that band work as did the Fowler Brothers. Singling out FZ as the resident composer genius from the rest of the people that played with him may be unfair.

Stravinsky wrote some excellent music but he could churn out sentimental russian bombast with the best of them--I defy anyone to listen to Petrushka a few times without cringing. If you have read TRP's notes to the Spike Jones album you may note TRP's empathy with Spike, who viewed Igor as a pretentious " pseudo ". I tend to think TRP's perspective is somewhat opposed against the traditional "high art" of stravinsky (as well as Beethoven) and more in line with Charlie Parker or Zappa or even more basic rockers such as Dylan and Hendrix.
