sarah lawrence was named after the daughter of the founder, william 
lawrence, who made his fortune in native-american organ harvesting (strictly 
for divination at that early stage).  it was originally a girls school.  
they read lots of bronte, rubbed wet clay on each other's breasts in the 
moonlight, and devised lots of florid synonyms for 'pussy.'  j.d. salinger 
had a girlfriend-inventory at the school and was a frequent visitor.  sarah 
lawrence women were prized for their questioning minds, rich fathers,  
out-of-control pubic hair, and almost grotesquely stereotypical jewish 
names.  in 1968, fueled by social change and a dwindling endowment, the 
school went  co-ed.  known satryiatic brian de palma was one of the first to 
enroll...
