Americans are very sophisticated. We live in (what I saw referred to the
other day as) the post-truth society. While many of us would enjoy
immensely seeing a 9-point headline in the Times saying "Bush makes an
idiot of himself," we also know that such would largely be a gratuitous
waste of ink. Fomerly it might have been considered truth. Today it has
gotten to be almost irrelevant. Folks (sophisticated American folks) now
only want to know the latest take on which of the two parties' versions
of (un)reality is up for the day and which is down.

I'm glad to see my guy is up.
