Similar experience for me. I found a brand new copy
of Gravity's Rainbow in the library at Camp Howze,
near the DMZ in South Korea just a few km from the
peace-treaty village at Panmumjon (sp?), in the summer
of 1973. Still kicking myself for not stealing the
book. The book made very good sense to me in that
zone of military occupation and craziness.
