Stevens (whatever) never actually retracted his statement supporting the
fatwa.  He was, of course, misquoted, and, of course, taken out of context;
and he suggested that the press needed a statement and he just happened to
be the token British Muslim that was chosen to support said fatwa.  But he
never retracted the actual support statement...he has a career in politics
waiting for him.
