Congrats!! ;-) I am most of the way through my second "round" of the
Baroque Cycle ( finally able to read them immediatly following each other ), so I
suppose it is redundant to allow that I enjoyed them immensely. There really
is no comparison to Pynchon, but Stephenson has definately become much more
"pynchonesque" in flavor, a tendency that is visible even in his earlier
novels. He certainly has come lightyears since his science ficton/cyberpunk
beginnings! It will be interesting to follow as his writing style continues to
mature- his wry sense of humor, tendency to follow strange tangents, whimsical
character descriptions (along with that strange name thing...), and ability to
hold together synchronistic, multilayered plots to a surprising depth all put
me in mind of T.P.'s writing, and although his command of language is
marvelous, it is not comparable to Pynchon at his frenzied best (not surprising, he
is in a class by himself....). All together an epic effort by an author
whose best, I'm sure, is yet to come! Any one who has enjoyed the Baroque Cycle
should also pick up his previous novel, "Cryptonomicon", as many of the
characters have their antecedents in Quicksilver, etc. ; also a few other strange
connections.....

                                                                enjoy!

Blessed is the lion that
the man will devour, and the lion
will become man. And loathsome is
the man that the lion will devour,
and the lion will become man.

Gospel of Thomas, Logion 7
