Hello all
In the arts and book review section of the Independent today (www.independent.co.uk), there is an interview with John Irving by one Robert Dawson Scott - amusingly, Scott writes of Irving: 'he will talk happily about his literary tastes; he likes Dickens, Rushdie, Garcia Marquez, the Canadian Robertson Davies; he doesn't like Thomas Pynchon or anyone he sees as deliberately, or at best carelessly obscure.'
Even better than that pearl, he quotes Irving as saying that if he had read many modern or postmodern writers, he would had never wanted to be a novelist.
The article, cover story and all, is accompanied by a photo of Irving contriving to look both smug and macho in an Adidas top ('at ease in a blue singlet', as Scott pricelessly offers).

Regards
