Mit Phantasie und Witz widersetzt sich Thomas Pynchon in seinen Romanen der
normativen Kraft des Faktischen. Ebenfalls nichts vom Imperativ des
Indikativs hält der Held von Frank Schäfers Erzählband «Pünschel gibt
Stoff», einer Sammlung von 57 in der deutschen Tageszeitung «Junge Welt»
publizierten Anekdoten. Thomas Pünschel deswegen aber gleich in die Nähe von
Thomas Pynchon zu rücken - wie es Schäfer an einigen Stellen suggeriert -,
erscheint dennoch an Pünschels langen Haaren herbeigezogen. Jedenfalls
wirken die Schnurren des Heavy-Metal-Fans und Pils-Trinkers im Vergleich zu
Pynchons narrativen Flipperkästen so raffiniert wie, nun sagen wir:
Flaschenöffner. Am Unterhaltungswert dieser Gebrauchsliteratur gibt es indes
nichts zu mäkeln. «Pünschel gibt Stoff» ist ein süffig geschriebenes Buch
mit gut sitzenden, schrägen Pointen. - Nachdem sich Frank Schäfer bisher als
Geistes- und Literaturwissenschafter, als Musikjournalist und als Romanautor
einen Namen gemacht hat, weiss sich der 1966 geborene, in Braunschweig
lebende Doktor der Philosophie jetzt auch im humoristischen Fach zu
behaupten.

Die Eingangssituationen sind sich in allen Storys ähnlich: Ein namenloses

wann haben wir das letzte Mal eine solch flott geschraubte Formulierung
gelesen? - wird «das edle Teil» endlich zum Verschwinden gebracht. «Ein über
zwanzig Jahre dauernder Fluch ist gebrochen. Er ist natürlich völlig aus dem
Häuschen. Ausser sich vor Freude springt er aus dem Bett. Und sein Arsch
fällt ab.» So also plaudert Pünschel, und «seine weite Jeans schlackerte
bedenklich um die Hüften».
