* Broken Esperanto ... OK, perhaps a little Spanish (Vineland's
Hector seems to indicate this), but German, French, or - for
that matter - Japanese?! No way. When Pynchon was writing Gravity's Rainbow he ordered from the library (UCLA, I guess, anyone?) all the books about Germany WITH PICTURES (-- Naumann reported that on the radio show). You know why? 'Cause those without pictures wouldn't have been of any use to him because ... well, you've got the idea by now. Could it be that the new novel has grown out of the master's hand? That he now thinks it must include ev-ry-thing til 9/11, as someone recently suggested.
Diseases interfering, stuff like that?! Are there London bookies who accept a bet on the publishing date? And what would be the quotas for saying that the new Pynchon novel comes this year?
