I've passed the 400 page mark and am in no hurry for the book to end.
The writing is never boring. There's so much interesting stuff going on.
I get the impression the interest will turn out to be mostly in the
telling of the story rather than any kind of hoped for resolution. Let's
face it, the protagonist is a mess, Can't imagine what redemption would
amount to. Coming of age? Not that sort of novel. He's over thirty. This
isn't a first novel or anything. Perlman, an Australian, had an earlier
very well received novel. Oh yes, another thing, though the setting is
Melbourne the feeling for me is of a very contemporary America.
