what i'm reading

The City Room, by Arthur Gelb. 

And, after a false start earlier, am slowly working through Lookout 
Cartridge, by Joseph McElroy.   Have gotten into the book's rhythm and find myself now 
anticipating and relishing it.

I've also been, rather addictively, reading the short stories of Ann Beattie. 
  Interesting for me in that, twenty years ago, her name would have been my 
answer, asked the writer whose work I most loathed.
