If it comes down to a choice between the G-8 summit, and throwing
rocks, breaking car windows (and misusing words like "junta"), to ease
poverty in Africa and implement environmental reforms, I'm pretty sure
I know which "side" I want to be on.

The fact that the protests against the G8 are ineffective does not preclude the notion that G8 summit should be protested. As usual, Bush was allowed to walk away from the summit with his (his junta's, his cabal's, his gang-of-four's, whatever you want to call Cheney-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz-Rice) agenda intact. He derailed the summit as surely as the terrorists derailed the trains, but, ultimately at a much higher cost in human lives.
