>>>We Germans learned from WW2 and the Holocaust that in the end
there's no way
trying to blame the political leadership alone. Every soldier in
Guantanamo,
Abu Ghureib or elsewhere on this planet is personally responsible for
what
he/she is doing in the name of his/her country and/or his/her God.<<<
It's not about blame. It's about a complex web of dynamics that goes
far beyond individual or national responsibility. Each individual and
nation plays a role in every other 'individual' or 'national' act. Bush
is playing a role in the perpetuation of terrorism which leads to
attacks by Islamic fundamentalists. The notion that an individual has
some kind of free will separate from dynamics far more powerful than
any tiny individual is an inspiring notion, but is just an illusion.
Cf, Gravity's Rainbow for a study in the complexities of war and
terror.
