Fantastic article on some of the reports, ethnographies, literature and
films which have utilised stories of and from the urban subterranean,
and the racial, social and political subtexts and symbolism contained
therein. Refers to Pynchon's sewer episodes in _V._ in detail,
documenting Pynchon's influences and literary precursors and some of
those works influenced by him, such as Matt Ruff's _Sewer, Gas &
Electric: The Public Works Trilogy_:

'Urban Nightmares and Future Visions: Life Beneath New York'
by David L. Pike, _Wide Angle_ 20.4, October 1998, pp. 8-50.
