As I recall, there were some listers (including David Morris, aka "Ghetta")
who dismissed the notion of a VL read simply because they didn't find it an
engaging read *and/or* because the political climate at the time (Summer,
2003) made it perhaps a touchy subject:

Yet, it seems that perhaps that "bitching" was not quite what Morris wants
us to remember it as, for he states:
