The Glory Days

I've been listening in to the list for a few months now, and I suppose
I wasn't sure what to expect. There didn't seem to be an endless
stream of Pynchon discussion, though articles, and correspondences to
his fiction, certainly abounded. There was also people mentioning what
book they had just started or finished, and if they loved or hated it.

One thing I'm still trying to figure out, and perhaps would bear
discussing, is 'what is the P-List for?' Is it a meeting place of
like-minded readers, who's single connection is Pynchon-fandom? Do we
sail the Web searching for an lost island with even just a hint of TRP,
do we attempt to navigate the unnavigateable plots of his books? It
seems there is a fair bit of policing going on, people indicating that
other people are doing something generally against the intent of the
list, by trolling or flaming. (As a list newbie, I'm not sure what
those mean, other then being generally bad.)

The peacemaker in me asks for a summit, a meeting, so that perhaps the
list can be re-centred to the purpose everyone seems to want it for.
Rather then denouncing others for working against the good of the list,
instead air those needs or wants that bring you to the list. I've
never been part of a list like this, so I'm not even sure if that's how
something like this works...

That said, auto-fellatio does sound like an even more effective
peacemaker...
