Writers for tomorrow

French literature magazine Lire (www.lire.fr) publishes in its May issue
a list of "50 writers for tomorrow"). They decided to exclude french
writers and focus on foreigners, and admitted that their view might be
biased since they read in French only, so their selection was already
based on the selection of publishing companies and translator. Find
below the complete list, in no particular order.

Who do you think deserves its place in the list, who else do you think
should have been included, instead of some more mediocre novelist? I'm
more specifically thinking of writers who have only published a couple
of books, who have most of their career ahead of them...

I think they have left out a major writer whose sole infortune is to be
Thailandese (which means he has only be published french and spanish
because there happens to be a French / Thailandese who dedicates himself
to traducings of authors of his country of origin). His name is Saneh
Sangsuk. Three of his works have been traduced, each of them rather
different. "L'ombre blanche" (White Shadow) is a sort of
autobiographical novel, abouth his youth in Bangogk and at the
countryside. It's a very powerful narration, with some very violent,
dark, atmosphere. His second story is "Venin" (Venom), a very short and
fascinating account of the fight between a huge viper and the little boy
of a farmer. The tongue and the style are beautiful, very classical in a
way, extremely different to the more shopisticated, experimental tones
of "L'ombre blanche". The last one I've read is "Une histoire vieille
comme la pluie" (A story as old as rain). It's the story of the struggle
of a young thai farmer with nature and especially with a tiger. The
animal takes a sort of mythical, supernatural role. It's really powerful
and should appeal to many discening readers. Unfortunately I don't know
if it will ever be published in its english translation.
