Interesting parallel: if we're to continue the metaphor, let me point out  
that the knight is the only chess piece which cannot be blocked; i.e., it can  
"jump" over its own (as well as enemy) pieces and pawns. This might be likened, 
 in a way, to Pirate's "telepathy"...!?
