I suspect this was a compromise, or, at any rate,
consensus, in the face of otherwise not being able to
produce a clear-cut contender, but it's a damn good
one.  A complete surprise, given the press, odds, not
to mention delay, whatever, preceding this year's
prize, but, were Pinter to have died without one, I've
no doubt tehre'd have been some collective forehead
slapping over the oversight, so ...
