Now checking in after my third refuge from the storm:  Baton Rouge, LA to 
Auburn, AL to Atlanta, GA.

We evacuated 24 hrs before Katrina hit.  As you all must know by now, New 
Orleans is in chaos with almost no help from the Feds so far, 5 days later.  
I won't try to describe it, because all I know is snippets from some who've 
remained behind, and media reports.  But let it be known that although the 
mayor has issued a mandatory evacuation of the city, there is no practical 
way to make that a reality.  There are far too many peolple still there, and 
no viable mechanisms to evacuate them.  And they are surrounded or immersed 
in toxic floods filling with more dead bodies as time passes.  And this 
great nation is so far leaving New Orleans stranded without food, water, 
electricity...

Most of the city is under water, some trapped and drowning in their attics 
as the water rises.  Bodies are floating in the streets.  Armed gangs are 
invading WalMarts & hospitals for guns and drugs.  Those now trying to flee 
by car have also to evade hordes wanting to comandeer their vehicles.  We 
need deperately MARTIAL LAW, but where are the soldiers?  This account is 
not an exageration.
