Pynchon in China

... or, more accurately, in Chinese. I wasn't the
mystery bidder who won what turned out indeed to be a
Chinese translation of The Crying of Lot 49, but it
was a friend who I believe retured the favor of me
having stood in line for hours to get Bruce Campbell
to sign his most recent book for his fiancee (AND I
scored Ted Raimi as a bonus). Unnecessary, as i made
an early wedding gift of it, but ... but sorry, Arne,
I'd sent the listing to him as a curiosity, and he
apparently bid enough on it, so ...

So, the good news is, it is indeed a translation of
The Crying of Lot 49, there's an ISBN number and
everything (though i don't have it now at hand). Not
only can my roommmate make out enough Chinese to have
caught some key bits for me (he's a Pynchon fan as
well, which helps), but there's straight up English,
acronyms, names, footnotes (on the transliteration of
names, mostly), AND a muted post horn at the
appropriate places (Serge's song also stood out, but
can't recall what wasn't translated) ...

Further, not only are there some color pictures (of
what/for what reasson I can't quite tell yet, but
...), plus some pages for notes (even says as much
there, apparently), there's what appears to be a
scholarly introduction (or maybe more accurately an
afterword, given how one reads Chinese books) as well,
it has endnotes, at any rate, which include references
not only to critical works, but Jeremy Rifkin's
Entropy (!) as well. Woo hoo ...

Anyway, again, Arne, all apologies, but I will get
Doug a copy of at LEAST teh afterword as soon as
possible, you'd be welcome to one as well (so make
sure i have yr current mailing addresses), anyone else
who might be interested, and, Michel, Otto, Quail,
anyone who might be willing to hiost some scans, let
me know, I think my roommmate could do those for me as
well, so just tell me how and where to send 'em, is
all. Gotta run ...

P.S.--Michel, is yr site down? Hope not, thanks ...
