always reading about McSweeney's as if it was the holy ghost of what's left 
of the intellectual ife when what it seems like to me is a load of old 
shite.

Yep. I love the intro to Alan Moore's 'V for Vendetta' about not turning off 
the news. There's a lot more in some comics than in all the Booker prize 
winning middle of the road snore-fests that'll plague us until the end of 
time......

As fer gettin kids to read I'm locked in a constant battle against the trash 
culture that washes over us like a tidal wave of effluent every day, trying 
to persuade my teenage daughter to switch off the tv and read a book, we're 
up against such an anti-intellectual culture what can we do?
