I must have misunderstood Theweleit but in my impression he sees the 
fascist only as a special case of the "man"!

I'm not sure if German fascism wouldn't have worked also with *only* 
communists, gypsies, gays etc as scapegoats. As far as I know Hitler's 
anti-Semitism had some deep-rooted personal reasons.
