My take:  In the future, literary critics will revisit
Vineland, Mason & Dixon, Against the Day, and the
stories, and at that future moment it will become
clear these are masterpieces that were not fully
understood in their day.  By the time I turn 100.

Why doom Against the Day to critical hostility before publication? Give it a 
chance!

(I think there have been unfavourable reviews both of V. and GR, although 
not so many as those of Vineland and M&D)
