Don't know if the opening is classic western but it's sort of close.
Jimmy Drop gets the "drop" on a helpless stranger and then in mock
gentlemanly fashion turns the occasion into a gun duel of sorts.
Not sure of the derivation of "getting the drop" meaning "getting the
advantage" but sounds like it might be related to "drop that gun."
Also, turning the tables on an evil assailant is a common western
motif--executed here in highly unstandard fashion
Forbes Parkhill's "The Kenosha Kid" story opens with a waylaying/
stickup situation and the Kid fairly quickly manages to overcome the
bad guy in the usual way, with fists.
