Pynchon on Simpsons

I really doubt that he did it to help them get
ratings.  First off, they aren't exactly hurting in
that regard (particularly for one of the longest
running shows on TV.)  Second, even a voiceover by the
reclusive Mr. Pynchon isn't exactly going to get
millions more people watching their show.  We who
actually care are a small cadre, largely under the
radar of the market researchers for Fox.  I really
believe he did, not for any ulterior reason, but
because he likes the show.

Sure, it's proverbial motorcycle has been flying over
the proverbial shark for the last few seasons, but if
I were TRP, I'd do voiceovers for it in a heartbeat.
