ATD: ad: Pynchon excerpt from new novel

Well we'll only be able to understand the excerpt in context when we've
seen more of the book. I'm still sticking with my theory that Penguin
(or Pynchon or his agent or whoever ultimately has 'control' of the
process) never intended this to be the general public's first taste of
ATD. Isn't this excerpt only available in a catalogue which is issued to
booksellers, critics, etc. and not to the public? It's surely possible
that there will be another, longer, maybe more representative excerpt
coming, which Penguin intended to be the first impression the general
reader would have?
