Slonimsky's Thesauraus is a great musical resource,
systematically breaking down the diatonic scale into
various different scales arpeggios, etc. Coltrane
used it as a practice book. I prefer Yusef Lateef's
practice books, but then I'm a traditionalist. Still,
Slonimsky has ample ideas, ripe for the stealing.

I had no clue that he was related to Mr. Weschler, who
wrote a very good book about one of my favorite things
in Southern California (a short list, indeed), the
Museum of Jurassic Technology. Next time you're in
Culver City, check it out.
