catching up/DeLillo, Chandler, Hammett

I've enjoyed Elroys books, but then I was never looking for literary
merit there.  As you say, we are after all talking about the LAPD
here.  Anyone who lived in LA in the fifties can feel the resonances.

By the way, I believe Elroy's mother was murdered in a way reminiscent
of the Blue Dahlia murder.
