I definitely saw the Riemann zeta function used in my grad-school
statistical physics class, during the treatment of quantum statistical
mechanics. (It pertains to Bose-Einstein condensation, subject of a
Nobel a little while back.) Also, the statements about regularizing
divergent series are correct, although the subject is more than a
little technical.
