Let Pynchon be Pynchon

Nothing to explain and never has been. Somebody
calling himself "Terrance" has been typing this phrase
over and over again now for quite a long while, part
of a pattern of reducing Pynchon novels to simplistic
- dare I say, GASP, braindead - slogans surrounded by
clouds of pointless rhetorical questions, under the
rubric of a serious-minded critique of Pynchon that
the rest of us mere mortal Pynchon readers are somehow
afraid to conduct. Some people here claim to get
something out of it, but I never have, frankly, not
from this one, my belief being that if you can't
articulate something you really don't have much to say
and might seek another medium of expression better
suited to the message.IMO, this is not the same
Terrance that some of us have either met in person or
talked with on the phone, but seems instead a pale and
rather lifeless imitation of that original.

Granted that Pynchon's sympathies appear to lie with
labor against capital, he's not writing editorial
cartoons, and to reduce a novel as complex as ATD to
such is just foolish, from an interpretive point of
view, imo, a time-waster designed mainly to prolong
yet another either-or, excluded middle exercise in
ping-pong futility, the sort of thing that sucks up
bandwidth that might otherwise be spent fruitfully
reading and discussing ATD instead of cruising at the
50,000-foot level mindlessly repeating sophomoric
questions - not that there's anything wrong with
questions, not a bit, but repeating the same question,
again, again, again, again, it's numbing, not
intriguing anymore the way it might have been the
first 50 times. My 2 cents.
