Good point, and the line between the two is obviously a fluid one. It seems
clear to me that the passage describing the ascent and descent of skyrockets
on page 112 is an obvious nod to GR, and nothing much more than that,
whereas the discussion on page 1083 of the third dimension as both an avenue
of transcendence and a means for delivering explosives may be regarded as
both a nod to GR (Ilse's dreams of flying to the moon vs. the V2), and as an
elaboration of the same theme. I guess it comes down to something as vague
as 'intuition' or 'gut feeling'. My gut feeling is that the Tristero isn't
hidden at the center of AtD, despite the odd nod or two in Lot 49's
direction.
