Chopra... OMG, compared to him Capra is Nils Bohr.
Relativity and quantum theory, of course, are far ahead of anything else in
physical science in pseudo-justifying belletristic excesses.
We spent much of the twentieth century telling ourselves that our quandaries
about cultural values had their root in "Einstein proved everything is
relative," and/or that all certainty -- let alone determinism -- must be
abandoned because ya never know which slit that photon will go through.
There *are* some deep and interesting connections -- but 90% of what's been
written on the "implications" beyond physics of relativity and quantum
theory is pitiable stuff. And it still passes muster in some quarters, cf.
l'affaire Sokal.
Question: when you first read of the Kirghiz Light in GR, did the later
Soviet nuclear tests one 'stan over in Kazakhstan come to your mind? That's
mere association, not even the loosest of metaphors, but it hit me at once,
I've never been able to shake it, and I'd lay odds it was in the author's
mind.
